Attorney General inaugurates 11-member committee for 1992 Constitution review implementation
Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has inaugurated an 11-member Constitution Review Implementation Committee CRIC to advance proposals for the review of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution. This follows the government’s position paper on recommendations from the Professor H. Kwesi Prempeh Constitution Review Committee, established last year by President John Dramani Mahama. The new committee, chaired by Presidential Legal Counsel and former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, is tasked with examining the government’s position paper and the Constitution Review Committee's report to develop a framework for implementing proposed reforms. Other members include Justice Srem Sai, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, former Electoral Commission Chairperson Charlotte Osei, Dr Rainer Akumperigya, Emelia Ankomah representing the Majority, Kwame Ayimadu Antwi representing the Minority, Samuel Passah as Local Government representative, Oliver Baker Vormawor as Secretary, Salamatu Iliasu as Draftsperson, and Eric Owusu-Mensa representing Parliament. The government stated that this committee's establishment is part of its commitment to an inclusive and transparent constitutional review process that reflects the aspirations of the Ghanaian people and strengthens democratic governance.
