Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings to resign from Pan-African Parliament role after ministerial nomination

She plans to formally submit her resignation at the next sitting of the Parliament, following her nomination as Minister-designate. This announcement was made during her appearance before the Vetting Committee on Thursday, August 27, 2026. When questioned by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin about her resignation, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings explained that the procedure requires her to formally hand in her resignation at the next sitting.

The Committee Chair clarified that her resignation can only occur after her confirmation by the committee and approval by Parliament. Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings was elected Second Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament on April 30, 2026, in South Africa, securing 131 votes against 51 for her opponent. Following her election, Ghana's Parliament was notified by the Pan-African Parliament, which requested that she be granted full ministerial-level protocols and privileges in accordance with AU diplomatic conventions for the role.
