Libyan Grand Mufti criticizes Tripoli government's governance failures
Sheikh Sadig al-Ghariani, the Western-based Grand Mufti of Libya, has criticized the Tripoli-based Libyan government for its governance failures this summer, citing a lack of basic necessities like water and fuel. He stated that people are suffering due to negligence and laxity, leading to power outages, cash shortages, and violations of God's laws. Al-Ghariani added that the government's focus on distractions such as football, World Cup budgets, mall openings, and rallies is a waste of time, especially when basic necessities are lacking. He highlighted that many Libyans cannot afford essential items, including medicine, and that inflation makes it difficult for retirees, for example, to live on their monthly income. The Grand Mufti urged the government to address these issues and the growing disparity between social classes.
