Over 250 public institutions fined GH垄20,000 for failing to submit 2025 Right to Information reports
The Right to Information Commission has sanctioned more than 250 public institutions, including the National Petroleum Authority, Office of the Special Prosecutor, Minerals Commission, and Ghana Grid Company Limited, with a GH垄20,000 fine each. This penalty is for their failure to submit their 2025 Right to Information annual reports, a requirement under Section 771 of the Right to Information Act, 2019 Act 989. The Commission stated that these institutions did not comply despite multiple reminders published in national newspapers. The list of defaulters encompasses regulatory bodies, state-owned enterprises, universities, hospitals, security institutions, and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies. The Commission emphasized that this non-compliance hinders its ability to prepare a comprehensive report for Parliament on the law's implementation. All defaulting institutions have been directed to pay the penalties within 14 days of receiving official notices, with warnings of further enforcement measures for non-compliance.
