Egypt and Uganda discuss agricultural cooperation and market access for poultry products
Egypt's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, met with Uganda's Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Frank Kagyigyi Tumwebaze, and Minister of State for Agriculture, Animal Resources and Fisheries, Robert Migadde Ndugwa, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries. Farouk emphasized the historical ties and the commitment to translating memoranda of understanding into development and investment projects. Tumwebaze praised Egypt's agricultural progress and scientific capabilities, expressing Uganda's interest in Egyptian expertise in aquaculture, livestock improvement, veterinary vaccine production, and modern irrigation. The discussion included progress on a 500-hectare joint integrated model farm in Uganda, with plans to expand strategic crop cultivation and enhance livestock feeding systems. They also reviewed the annual supply of approximately 10 million doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine to Uganda. Opportunities for private-sector participation in joint agricultural and livestock investment projects were explored, focusing on agro-processing, livestock production, and irrigation infrastructure.
