Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II calls for urgent action to reduce maternal mortality in Ghana

He made this appeal during a visit from the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. Otumfuo commended Dr. Danquah's work with the Maternal Mortality Action and Response Programme M-MARP and the collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service. He emphasized that women should not lose their lives at health facilities due to preventable complications or negligence.

The Asantehene called on healthcare professionals to show professionalism and commitment, and advised pregnant women to attend antenatal clinics regularly and follow medical advice. He stressed that timely antenatal care and access to skilled healthcare can identify complications early. Otumfuo urged Dr. Danquah to prioritize the M-MARP initiative as a crucial intervention for maternal health.

Dr. Danquah's visit is part of her tour to engage stakeholders and health facilities on strengthening maternal healthcare services in the Ashanti Region.
