
Videos show final moments of Ghanaian student who died in China
Video footage has emerged showing the final moments of Ghanaian student Mercy Yaaba Bredu, who passed away in China just two days after her arrival from Ghana. Mercy, a former Vice President of the Association of Students of English at the University of Education, Winneba, traveled to China to pursue further education. One video shows Mercy at the Accra International Airport with her family, appearing joyful as she boarded her flight. Another video captures her collapsing at an airport in China, struggling to breathe, where Chinese nationals and airport officials provided assistance. After regaining consciousness, she appeared weak and was subsequently taken to a hospital. According to a report, Mercy departed Ghana on Monday, August 24, 2026, and reportedly complained of heart pain during the journey. Her condition worsened upon arrival in China, leading to her collapse and subsequent death on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Mercy was a first-class student and served as Vice President of ASSENS in 2024.
