UK appoints Vicky Seymour as Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria

She has assumed duty in Abuja, succeeding Gill Lever OBE, whose diplomatic posting ended in June 2026. The British High Commission in Abuja announced the appointment on Thursday, August 6, 2026. Seymour previously served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office FCDO since 2023, and also headed the FCDO’s Trade Diplomacy Department and was Development Director in Mozambique.

With over 20 years of experience in diplomacy, international development, and public service, her career includes postings in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, and Afghanistan, focusing on climate, security, economic development, and migration. Seymour expressed her enthusiasm for strengthening the relationship between the UK and Nigeria, aiming to foster greater collaboration and links between the people of both countries. She will play a key role in advancing the UK’s engagement with Nigeria in areas such as economic growth, security, migration, international collaboration, and development cooperation.
