Tensions at FSF COMEX meeting over Lions' 2026 World Cup organization

Cissé strongly criticized the organization of the Lions' participation in the 2026 World Cup, citing numerous organizational shortcomings that he believes disrupted the national team's stay. He highlighted difficulties with travel formalities, visa acquisition, preparation deficiencies, and various logistical problems, which he stated negatively impacted the team's composure during the tournament. Cissé directly targeted Sow, even calling for his removal as Secretary General, though he later withdrew this resolution.

The meeting also resulted in Cissé's reinstatement as the FSF's communications manager. This incident occurs amidst existing tensions regarding federal management, including prior reports of unpaid player bonuses, substandard accommodation in New York, and the absence of the usual chef, forcing some international players to eat out. These controversies have prompted Deputy El Hadji Guèye, president of the National Assembly's Sports and Youth Commission, to request a parliamentary audit of the FSF's management from the institution's president, Ousmane Sonko.
