Ethiopia officially bids for 2028 Africa Cup of Nations, Guinea proposes co-hosting 2032 edition with Senegal

Ethiopia, with a population of nearly 135 million, has officially submitted its bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations CAN. The Ethiopian Football Federation FEF aims to bring the competition back to the country, which last hosted it in 1976. The Ethiopian national team is currently ranked 143rd globally by FIFA, and its most recent participation in the final phase of CAN was in 2021. Meanwhile, Guinea has expressed its interest in co-hosting the 2032 CAN with Senegal. The Guinean Football Federation sent an official letter to the Senegalese Football Federation on July 31, 2025, proposing a joint bid. This collaboration seeks to leverage shared resources for hosting the event and strengthen historical ties between Dakar and Conakry. Guinean Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah has endorsed his country's bid for both the 2032 and 2036 CAN editions. The 2025 CAN was held in Morocco, with Senegal winning against the host country.
