Green Key, an international certification supported by the Foundation for Environmental Education FEE and present in over 90 countries, recognizes tourism establishments and hospitality businesses committed to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. This certification followed a rigorous evaluation, including an on-site audit to verify compliance with environmental and social criteria. To prepare for this, the Sofitel Abidjan H么tel Ivoire implemented various initiatives since last year to reduce its environmental footprint.
These include creating an "anti-waste brigade" to raise staff awareness, partnering with Nespresso for coffee capsule recycling, and responsible waste management, including composting food waste. The hotel also promotes sustainable mobility by providing bicycles for staff and guests, and aims to reduce single-use plastics. Furthermore, it has optimized water and energy consumption through LED lighting and detection devices, prioritizes local sourcing for some products, and trains staff on eco-friendly practices.
This certification acknowledges the hotel's efforts to integrate sustainable development principles into its operations, strengthen social responsibility, combat food waste, and responsibly use energy resources, while maintaining service quality for its guests.
