Three suspects arrested in connection with Enugu church attack, four AK-47 rifles recovered
Three suspected members of a kidnapping gang, allegedly responsible for the August 2 attack on St. Joseph鈥檚 Catholic Church in Inoyi-Affa, Enugu State, have been apprehended during a joint operation. The operation involved the Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, Police, Enugu State Forest Guard, and other security personnel. During the operation, one suspected kidnapper was killed in a gun battle, and four AK-47 rifles along with ammunition were recovered. Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, disclosed this development. Prof. Onyia stated that two of the three victims abducted during the August 2 incident, Seminarian Lawrence Igbo and Emmanuel Onwudi, have been freed and identified the arrested suspects. He emphasized the state government's commitment to deploying its security architecture to prevent criminal activities and ensure offenders face justice. Prof. Onyia also warned residents against collaborating with criminal groups, stating that anyone found assisting them would be prosecuted. He commended the security agencies for their instrumental role in the operation.
