Former Imo State governorship candidate Uche Nwosu condemns cleric's 'infidels' comment on Muslim-Muslim ticket
Uche Nwosu, a former governorship candidate in Imo State, has criticized remarks made by Sheikh Sani Jingir, a prominent Islamic cleric, regarding the continued use of Muslim-Muslim presidential tickets. Nwosu described Jingir's comments as divisive and potentially capable of fueling religious tension in Nigeria. Jingir, speaking at an event attended by governors Abba Yusuf of Kano State and Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, reiterated his support for Muslim-Muslim tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections and praised President Bola Tinubu for adopting this arrangement in the 2023 presidential election. Jingir urged his audience to obtain Permanent Voter Cards to "show the infidels their limit." Nwosu stated that such remarks are unacceptable and could undermine efforts to promote unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, emphasizing that no religion should be used to insult or degrade another faith. He called on religious leaders to encourage tolerance and mutual respect, and urged the Federal Government to take action against public utterances that violate the law or threaten national unity.
