Ousmane Sonko clarifies request for additional special funds from the Prime Minister's Office
Ousmane Sonko has addressed the controversy surrounding his request for additional special funds while he was head of government. This follows an accusation made in late July by Minister Abdourahmane Diouf, who claimed Sonko had exhausted the 1.77 billion CFA francs allocated to the Prime Minister's Office before requesting a budget supplement. Sonko, the former Prime Minister, publicly detailed the exact nature of the expenses that led to this request. He stated the funds were needed to cover several expenditures for the Prime Minister's Office, requiring inclusion in a supplementary finance law. These expenses included 940,560,000 FCFA for vehicle acquisition from ONRAC, 87 million FCFA for the budgetary coverage of the market related to the evaluation and technical and financial audit of the ten-year flood management program, 100 million FCFA for activities of the committee commemorating the 1944 Thiaroye massacre, and 300 million FCFA for bringing the administrative building up to standard, including compensation and equipment installation. Sonko explained that the Prime Minister's Office faced certain expenses that required inclusion in the next supplementary finance law, detailing the origin of the additional fund request mentioned by Abdourahmane Diouf.
