Senegal presents ECOWAS mediation plan to Guinea-Bissau transitional authorities
Senegal has officially presented its mediation mission plan to Guinea-Bissau's transitional authorities, a mandate entrusted to it by the Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS to address the country's political crisis. The Senegalese delegation, led by the Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, and accompanied by the Minister of Armed Forces, Yancoba Di茅m茅, held initial official contact with key Bissau-Guinean transitional authorities. This mission stems from a decision made during the 69th ordinary session of the ECOWAS Conference of Heads of State and Government, held on July 19 in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye currently holds the rotating presidency of the regional organization. The delegation met with Fatumata Jau, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Communities; Prime Minister Il铆dio Vieira T茅; and General Horta Inta-A Naman, President of the Transition. Discussions focused on the precise scope of Senegal's mediation mandate and the next steps in the ECOWAS-led process. The Senegalese delegation reaffirmed the regional organization's readiness to support the transitional authorities in finding a resolution to the crisis, aiming for a swift return to constitutional order and political stability in Guinea-Bissau.
