Osun Commissioner of Police removed due to politicians' complaints ahead of governorship election

Disu explained that the decision was made after consultations with political stakeholders who expressed concerns about their confidence in the state police commissioner. The police have since introduced the role of an electoral commissioner of police to oversee election security, with this new officer taking charge of operations. The former Commissioner of Police was asked to step aside to allow the electoral commissioner of police to move in earlier.

Additionally, other senior police officers, including an AIG and a Deputy Commissioner of Police, will be deployed to Osun State with specific responsibilities for the election. Disu stated that these officers have clear instructions to ensure adequate security and that the police are the lead organization for internal security during the election. He also assured cooperation with other security agencies.

To address concerns about potential violence, teams have been deployed across the state to prevent law and order breakdown and ensure residents can vote peacefully. The Osun governorship election will see incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party seeking re-election against Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress candidate.
