Niger residents protest abductions, block Mokwa-Bida highway
Commuters on the Mokwa-Bida highway faced significant delays as residents protested persistent banditry and blocked the road. The highway, a crucial link between the Southwest and North, saw all entry points into Mokwa blocked by angry protesters. Many travelers, including Joy Amaechi heading to Abuja, were stranded for hours. One protester, Saliu Mohammed, claimed 15 residents were recently abducted by suspected bandits and alleged that security agencies had not rescued the victims. Mohammed stated the protest would continue until the victims are rescued. A driver, Henry Nwachuckwu, reported being stuck since Sunday morning. The protest was ongoing as of the report filing time.
