Ogun Customs seizes ₦4.63 billion in contraband, generates ₦259.8 million revenue
The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Idiroko, impounded contraband goods with a Duty Paid Value of ₦4.63 billion and generated ₦259.78 million in revenue between April and June 2026. Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, acting Controller of the Command, stated that these achievements were part of intensified efforts to enforce fiscal policies, facilitate legitimate trade, and suppress smuggling activities. Seizures included 2,807 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 9,482 parcels of cannabis sativa, 62 sacks of raw marijuana, 16,525 litres of premium motor spirit, 475 litres of diesel, 7,642 pieces of footwear, 2,427 pneumatic tyres, and 63 sacks of foreign sugar. The command also handed over 6,981 parcels of Cannabis Indica and 62 sacks of raw marijuana to the NDLEA Idiroko Special Command, and illicit pharmaceuticals, including 77 cartons of Analgin injection and 100 sachets of Tramadol, to NAFDAC. The revenue generated, ₦259,777,346.89, represents a 238 percent increase compared to the ₦76,814,207 collected during the same period in 2025, attributed to officer dedication and strict enforcement of regulations. The command recorded 146 seizures, including a truck concealing 2,427 smuggled pneumatic tyres and another with 113 bags of foreign parboiled rice hidden under cement bags. Anambra security forces neutralize three gunmen, recover weapons after attack on governor's aide convoy
Agunechemba operatives, a security outfit in Anambra State, dislodged a terror group's camp in Aguata Local Government Area, killing three individuals and injuring several others. The operation, conducted on Tuesday night, led to the recovery of a Rocket-Propelled Grenade, AK-47 rifles, other weaponry, the gang's white Hilux van, charms, and other items. According to Nweke Nweke, Media and Publicity Secretary for Agunechemba, this gang had previously attacked the convoy of the Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Ben Nwankwo, on June 2, resulting in four casualties, including two police officers and two civilians. The attack occurred along the Amansea–Ndiora–Ndiukwuenu–Awa–Ufuma Road in Orumba South Local Area. Agunechemba operatives, in partnership with the police, raided the camp after intelligence gathering. The gang, which reportedly masqueraded in Federal Government security uniforms, was also involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, and abduction in the Anambra South Senatorial District. Prince Ken Emekayi, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Community Security, Sylvester Ofodeme, Chairman of the State House of Assembly Committee on Internal Security, and Chief Chinenye Ihenko, Head of Operations of Agunechemba, highlighted the operation as a significant triumph for Anambra's security forces.
