Nepal-Tibet floods death toll reaches 676, nearly 3,000 missing

Authorities in Nepal reported on Saturday that 676 people have died and close to 3,000 are still unaccounted for following the events on Wednesday. In Tibet, Chinese authorities have confirmed seven deaths and over 550 people missing. Rescue efforts are being hindered by adverse weather conditions.

Experts suggest that the floods and mudslides were caused by a large ice mass breaking off a glacier and falling into the Lhende Khola River, leading to a surge of water downstream.
