National Oil Corporation clarifies gas export facts amid power cuts and public unrest

The NOC clarified that only about 10% of the Italian partner Eni's share of gas is currently exported, primarily for operational and technical reasons to maintain pipeline integrity. The vast majority of gas, including most of the foreign partner's share, is consumed domestically to meet local demand, especially for power generation during summer. The NOC emphasized that the Domestic Gas Supply Agreement prioritizes national needs and that forcibly halting and restarting production is a complex, costly, and risky process.

The corporation urged the Libyan people to protect the vital energy sector from political interference to ensure energy security and continuous supply.
