
Tripoli Defence Undersecretary Zoubi meets US congressional delegation in Misrata
Lieutenant General Abdelsalam Al-Zoubi, Undersecretary of the Tripoli-based Libyan Ministry of Defence, met with a US congressional delegation led by Austin Scott in Misrata. The delegation included Jimmy Panetta, Salud Carbajal, and Jeremy Berndt, Senior Advisor for Libyan Political Affairs and Charg茅 d鈥檃ffaires at the US Embassy in Libya. Al-Zoubi welcomed the visit, highlighting its importance for US efforts to unify the military and establish peace in Libya. He also acknowledged the partnership between the US, including US Africa Command AFRICOM, and Libyan leaders, which led to Sirte hosting part of the Flintlock 2026 exercise. The congressional delegation affirmed that the success of Flintlock 2026 demonstrated the Libyan Ministry of Defence's commitment to unifying the military and building a defence partnership with the US. The Ministry of Defence welcomed plans to host the main phase of Flintlock 2027 in Libya and to establish a national joint operations center. Additionally, the Ministry is forming a unified Libyan air command with eastern counterparts and creating a Libyan Air Force "Centre of Excellence" for training at the Air Academy in Misrata, supported by the United States, to unify the military and protect the country's territorial integrity.
