Davido rules out running for political office, cites systemic flaws and electoral manipulation risks
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, known as Davido, has stated he will not run for public office in the future. He cited deep-seated systemic flaws, high political stress, and risks of electoral manipulation in Nigeria as his reasons. During an interview on News Central TV, Davido reflected on his digital advocacy during the recent Osun State governorship election. He dismissed the idea that his political involvement signaled a transition into politics, expressing frustration with a flawed electoral framework where candidates can be "rigged out" despite public support. The musician emphasized his commitment to his music career, stating he defeated 17 governors with just a phone during the Osun election. He also clarified that he would not be pressured into supporting a presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, asserting his independence despite his uncle Governor Ademola Adeleke's political and administrative ties with the Federal Government for the benefit of Osun State. Davido confirmed he currently has no preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections and has ruled out alignment with the All Progressives Congress.
