Ben Murray-Bruce urges President Tinubu to prioritize Nigeria's refinery revitalization

Murray-Bruce expressed concern over Nigeria's practice of exporting crude oil and importing refined products, despite significant investments in refinery resuscitation. He urged the President to appoint a competent individual to manage the refineries, emphasizing the need for results-oriented leadership. Murray-Bruce cited Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu as examples of individuals capable of confronting systemic issues.

He highlighted the economic inefficiency of Nigeria's current approach and advocated for the rehabilitation and commercially viable operation of the refineries as a national priority. Murray-Bruce suggested that the government explore various models, including private capital and concessions, to ensure the refineries become operational. He referenced the Dangote refinery's success, proposing that government-owned refineries aim for at least 50% of its daily capacity, approximately 325,000 barrels per day.

He believes Nigeria should aspire to be a refining powerhouse for Africa and a major exporter of refined petroleum products. Murray-Bruce clarified that his support for the administration does not equate to sycophancy, stating that a true supporter offers constructive criticism.
