Chadi Riad suffers new injury setback in Premier League match
Moroccan international defender Chadi Riad was stretchered off the field during Crystal Palace's Premier League match against Everton on Saturday. Riad, who was making his first start for the club this season, sustained the injury in the 72nd minute while challenging Thierno Barry. The 23-year-old was visibly affected and was replaced by Takehiro Tomiyasu. Crystal Palace has not yet released a precise diagnosis, and the nature and severity of the injury are awaiting medical examinations. Crystal Palace coach Pierre Sage stated he is awaiting the results of the medical tests, hoping the injury is less severe than feared. This incident marks another physical alert for Riad, who had just returned to play after a series of long absences due to knee injuries, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament in January 2025. His previous injuries kept him out of competition for approximately 430 days. Riad had gradually returned to competition in 2026, re-establishing his place in Crystal Palace's defense and participating in the 2026 World Cup with the Lions of the Atlas.
