Colombia has announced a change in its position on the Sahara issue, now recognizing Morocco's sovereignty over its Southern Provinces and withdrawing its recognition of the "rasd." This new orientation was revealed during a meeting between Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, and Jos茅 Manuel Restrepo, Vice President of Colombia, along with Omar Bula Escobar, Colombia's Minister of Foreign Relations. Omar Bula Escobar confirmed Colombia's recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara. Jos茅 Manuel Restrepo described this announcement as a "new beginning" for relations between Colombia and Morocco, calling Morocco Colombia's "first ally in Africa" and expressing his country's desire for a strategic partnership. Nasser Bourita deemed Colombia's decision "historic," believing it will significantly boost bilateral relations. He also highlighted the potential for Morocco and Colombia to serve as economic platforms for each other, leveraging their respective positions in Africa and Latin America. Bourita's presence in Cali, on the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to represent the Sovereign at the inauguration ceremony of the new president Abelardo de la Espriella, signifies Morocco's commitment to this new dynamic and to elevating Moroccan-Colombian relations.
