Marhaba 2026: Tanger Med port ensures smooth transit for Moroccan residents abroad despite increased departures

A system implemented at the Mediterranean Rest Area ARM by the Foundation helps manage transit flow by processing passengers traveling by coaches and vehicles before they reach the port. This initiative, active from August 18 to September 6, involves teams from various shipping companies connecting Tanger Med and Algeciras, as well as the Tanger Med Port Authority, to handle boarding operations, including the "fixed ticket" procedure. At the rest area, MREs can process tickets, complete administrative formalities, and confirm departure times.

This coordinated effort between the rest area and the port allows for precise assessment of passenger and vehicle flows, facilitating access to the port for final customs, police, and border control checks. Digitalization and an optical character recognition OCR system for vehicle transit, managed by the Tanger Med Port Authority, have also accelerated control procedures, reducing waiting times before embarkation. Moroccan residents abroad have praised the social and medical assistance provided through Operation Marhaba 2026, particularly at the 26 reception areas 6 abroad and 20 in Morocco.

They also commended the system at Tanger Med port, which has reduced the time to reach the boarding quay from the port entrance to under 45 minutes. This initiative is part
