Morocco secures four new medals at the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto
Moroccan athletes achieved success at the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto on Sunday, earning four medals in taekwondo and wrestling. Sofiane Al Assabi won a gold medal in taekwondo in the +80 kg category, defeating Croatia's Ivan Sabina 2-0 in the final after also beating Spain's Ivan Garcia Martinez in the semi-final by the same score. Amina Dehhaoui secured a silver medal in the -57 kg taekwondo event on Saturday. Haytham Zghouti won a silver medal in the -80 kg category, losing to Tunisia's Firas Gattoussi 1-2 in the final. Nada Laaeraja earned a bronze medal in the -67 kg category, after defeating Montenegro's Andrea Perisaj 2-0 before falling to Turkey's İşıl Zafer 0-2 in the semi-final. In wrestling, Yazid Gharbia took home a bronze medal in the -60 kg category with an 8-0 victory over Italy's Gabriele Bouchir. Morocco concluded the day with a total of four medals across the two disciplines: one gold, one silver, and two bronze.
