ADA secures Green Climate Fund support for agro-pastoral project in Oriental and Khénifra regions

This support will enable ADA to develop a comprehensive funding proposal from an endorsed concept note. The project, titled "Strengthening the resilience of agricultural systems to climate change in the Oriental region and Khénifra province," aims to address climate vulnerabilities in these areas, which are highly susceptible to water stress. The Oriental region and Khénifra province face intense droughts, erratic rainfall, rising temperatures, recurrent floods, and soil erosion.

These climatic pressures negatively impact rural economies dependent on agro-pastoralism, leading to reduced water availability, degraded pastures and agricultural lands, and decreased productivity in both plant and animal sectors. This exacerbates poverty, food insecurity, and rural exodus, with a disproportionate impact on women, youth, and small-scale farmers. The future project will focus on two main objectives: strengthening soil adaptation and the resilience of pastoral lands through sustainable agriculture, improved soil fertility, and erosion control; and enhancing the adaptive capacity and diversifying livelihoods of vulnerable agricultural and pastoral communities by improving animal production, consolidating value chains, and developing sustainable income-generating activities.
