Kenya's President William Ruto unveils new police uniforms with two-tone design

The new uniform, introduced during a passing-out parade at the National Police Service Training College in Kiganjo, Nyeri County, includes updated insignia with the Kenya Police emblem on the left sleeve and the national flag on the right. Integrated name tags are also part of the new design, aiming to improve officer identification. The collection expands to include sweaters, trench coats, rainwear, and high-visibility reflective clothing, alongside both long- and short-sleesleeved shirts.

The change follows consultations with police officers and the public in 2023, as well as recommendations from the Presidential Task Force on Police Reforms, which highlighted concerns about the previous uniform's quality and suitability. Graduating officers will be the first to wear the new uniform, with a progressive rollout to general duty officers nationwide. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja stated that the new design reverts to a previously agreed-upon uniform.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen clarified that the current deep-blue uniform will be phased out gradually. Additionally, the redesign introduces plain, light-blue maternity uniforms for pregnant female officers, designed as a free-flowing dress for comfort.
