US government commits KSh 930 million to modernize Kenya Police Training College
The United States Embassy in Kenya announced a KSh 930 million USD 7 million initiative to support the modernization of Kenya's National Police Service. US Charg茅 d'Affaires Carla Benini attended the passing-out parade at Kiganjo Police Training College alongside President William Ruto on August 28. The embassy stated that the investment aims to support Kenya's pursuit of a modern, professional, and effective police service, emphasizing that well-trained officers can best protect and serve citizens, and that safety is vital for Kenyan and American businesses. President Ruto outlined his expectations for newly graduated officers, stressing that modern policing requires officers to be physically and psychologically prepared, professionally competent, and technologically proficient, with building public trust being as central as crime prevention. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen detailed government steps to strengthen training infrastructure, including reopening regional police training centers and elevating Kiganjo Training College to a campus of the National Police University. He also mentioned the establishment of additional field training grounds, with one operational in Meru and others planned for the Kerio Valley, northern region, and the Coast.
