Nairobi Hospital announces new Board of Management members after AGM
The Kenya Hospital Association KHA has constituted a new Board of Management for The Nairobi Hospital following its Annual General Meeting on August 25, 2026. This reconstitution follows months of controversy and a prolonged dispute between doctors and the previous board regarding the institution's management. A group of doctors had approached President William Ruto, in his capacity as KHA patron, seeking intervention due to alleged wrongdoing and mismanagement. President Ruto subsequently directed the removal and prosecution of individuals linked to fraudulent activities. However, this move drew criticism from opposition figures who accused the president of attempting to install loyalists and seize control of the hospital. President Ruto dismissed these claims, stating that he acted to save the hospital from "conmen, fraudsters, and charlatans." The hospital's governance issues date back to November 2019, when an audit revealed procurement irregularities and cost overruns. The Nairobi Hospital, a non-profit organization, holds assets valued at nearly KSh 12 billion and generates significant monthly revenue.
