Ousmane Sonko alleges government plot to dissolve Pastef and recover its registration
During a tour in Jolof for Pastef card sales, Ousmane Sonko, president of Pastef-Les Patriotes, claimed the government is trying to provoke his party to justify its dissolution and recover its registration. He stated this move is intended to exclude Pastef from upcoming elections. Sonko urged his supporters to remain calm, disciplined, and avoid provocation, suggesting a scenario is being developed to dissolve Pastef. He criticized the current administration for deviating from commitments made to the Senegalese people, arguing that voters did not support the current practices. Sonko also condemned the alleged buying of mayors and other leaders, practices he and his companions fought against, emphasizing that the Senegalese people did not endure struggles for such outcomes. He believes the mandate given by voters was for a profound system transformation, not a continuation of the old system. Responding to attacks from presidential party officials, Sonko dismissed his detractors as "political mummies" and "political zombies," stating their attacks stem from a lack of political will, capacity, and pure malice. He noted that these individuals, who now attack him, previously praised him as a "Messiah" and an "idol" when they sought positions or relied on him for their careers, even claiming they "polished his shoes" when they needed posts.
