Senegal and World Bank strengthen education partnership, focusing on curriculum reform and digital transformation
Senegal and the World Bank have agreed to enhance their collaboration in education, following a meeting on August 7, 2026. The discussions involved Senegal's Minister of National Education and Ousmane Diagana, World Bank Vice President for the West and Central Africa Region, during his official visit to Senegal from August 5 to 7, 2026. The meeting highlighted the strong strategic partnership between Senegal and the World Bank, acknowledging the success of past projects like the Integrated Program for Early Childhood Development PIPADHS. Future initiatives, including the Program for Improving the Performance of the Educational System PAPSE, were also discussed. Key areas of focus included curriculum reform, securing necessary funding, and expanding the MOHEBS program from three to six regions. Emphasis was also placed on strengthening support for daaras, aligning with national consultations and presidential directives. The meeting also addressed accelerating digital transformation and improving educational governance. The PAPSE program may be extended to incorporate future investments in human capital, youth employability, and the integration of education, vocational training, agriculture, and local skills development. The Minister of National Education reaffirmed commitment to these structural reforms, aiming for an inclusive and high-performing educational system that aligns with Senegal's development priorities.
