Government to recruit 2,500 health workers in 2026, regularize existing contractors
The government plans to recruit 2,500 new health workers in 2026, as announced by the Minister of Public Service, Labor, and Public Service Reform, Mamadou Lamine Dianté. This initiative also aims to regularize some contract workers already employed in health facilities. Minister Dianté highlighted a significant shortage of over 18,000 health agents, attributing it to low recruitment rates in recent years, which has led to increased reliance on contract employment. The minister cited an example of a head nurse with ten years of contract work, emphasizing the equity concerns for long-serving agents, especially those in remote areas. The recruitment and regularization process will be based on objective criteria to strengthen human resources in the health system and address the needs of health facilities, particularly in underserved regions.
