Ghanaian man allegedly attacked with acid in Dubai appeals for justice

Degle, who moved to Dubai in April 2022 for work, recounted on JoyNews that a disagreement with a Ghanaian housemate named Michael escalated, leading to the alleged acid attack. He stated that Michael poured acid on his face after an argument. Degle regained consciousness in January 2024, and police informed him that a suspect had been arrested.

After his discharge, the case was referred to public prosecution in Dubai, and Ghana's mission in the UAE provided a lawyer's contact and 2,000 dirhams for legal support. However, Degle claims the lawyer did not attend court and requested an additional 24,000 dirhams, which he could not afford. Unable to continue the legal process and facing financial hardship, he returned to Ghana.

Degle is now struggling to support his wife, Monica, and their two children, living in an unfinished room without proper facilities. While financial support from media reports helped with some construction, the building remains incomplete. He works as a motor rider, but some passengers avoid him due to his appearance.

He also built a shop for his wife but lacks funds to stock it. Degle has petitioned the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Ghana, the police, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hoping for intervention and justice.
