Aminata Touré discusses anti-corruption efforts and accountability in Senegal

She stated that these cases are now in the hands of the judiciary. Touré emphasized that this commitment is deeply personal for President Faye, citing his own experience of incarceration for eleven months before his presidency, which she described as an injustice for publishing two sentences on Facebook. She clarified that judicial procedures are now following their normal course, with magistrates examining the cases and making decisions according to the law, thereby framing the issue as strictly judicial rather than political. Beyond the current judicial proceedings, Touré also reflected on Senegal's approach to fighting corruption. She advocated for a less sensational and more institutionalized approach, suggesting that accountability should be a normal practice of governance. She called for more frequent and regular audits, ideally annual, across all public administrations, viewing audits as a normal requirement of good governance rather than as targeting individuals.
