Gabon inaugurates new defense and security infrastructure as part of modernization program

These inaugurations are part of a modernization program initiated in 2024. The new infrastructure includes the headquarters for the National Navy, the Fire Brigade, the Armored Intervention Group GBI, and the 1st Parachute Regiment, as well as an annex building for Prison Security. The National Navy's new command center, located in a rehabilitated former foreign representation site, aims to enhance surveillance of maritime spaces and the Exclusive Economic Zone, crucial for combating illicit activities in the Gulf of Guinea.

The Fire Brigade's new headquarters, named "Brigadier General Mbadinga Marius," covers 2,034 m² and includes offices, an operations room, and a meeting room, designed to improve emergency response coordination. The Prison Security's new annex building, constructed in nine months, involved the participation of detainees as part of a professional activity, training, and apprenticeship program aimed at social and professional reintegration. The GBI's new headquarters, named after Army General Grégoire Kouna, features equipped offices, an operations room, and training facilities.
