Egypt and Palestine emphasize territorial unity in Gaza and West Bank
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh discussed the importance of preserving the territorial unity of Palestinian territories in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, and enabling the Palestinian Authority to assume its responsibilities. During a phone call, Abdelatty condemned Israel’s expansion of settlement activities, escalating settler violence, and violations in East Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He reiterated Egypt’s rejection of the E1 settlement project, warning it could divide the West Bank, isolate East Jerusalem, and undermine the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The officials also addressed efforts to complete the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, which includes ensuring humanitarian aid to Gaza and enabling the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to operate within the enclave. Al-Sheikh praised Egypt’s support for the Palestinian cause and its efforts to uphold the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
