Egypt discovers Old Kingdom tomb of Sekhentiu-Ptah and extensive burial network at Saqqara

The discovery includes the funerary chapel of Sekhentiu-Ptah's tomb, featuring a false door in its original position and a complete set of alabaster funerary ritual objects with hieroglyphic inscriptions. These inscriptions identify Sekhentiu-Ptah and list his titles, such as Royal Chamberlain and Overseer of All the King’s Works, indicating his prominent administrative role during the Old Kingdom. The burial shafts also yielded human remains, painted funerary cartonnage, over 100 faience ushabti figurines, three sealed stone sarcophagi, a wooden falcon statue, and various pottery vessels.

These findings offer significant insights into funerary rituals and burial practices from the Old Kingdom through the Late Period, and contribute to understanding the historical development and reuse of the necropolis. The mission is continuing its scientific documentation and analysis, with expectations of further discoveries.
