Egypt and ILO discuss enhanced cooperation on employment, skills, and economic resilience

Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Ahmed Rustom, met with Eric Oeschlan, head of the International Labour Organization's Cairo office, to explore expanding joint cooperation. Discussions focused on employment policy, skills development, and entrepreneurship support, aiming to promote decent work, strengthen human capital, and empower startups for inclusive economic growth. Rustom emphasized Egypt's partnership with the ILO, highlighting a development-oriented vision linking economic growth with job creation in coordination with the private sector. He noted global geopolitical tensions and uncertainty pressure emerging economies, requiring adaptive policy frameworks. Egypt continues its economic reform program to strengthen resilience and flexibility, focusing on macroeconomic stability and supporting productive sectors like agriculture and industry. Efforts include addressing inflationary pressures, securing essential goods, and boosting competitiveness, with the private sector playing a central role. Oeschlan praised Egypt's efforts to mitigate global and regional economic challenges, affirming the ILO's readiness to support Egypt's national employment agenda through strategic cooperation on youth employment, entrepreneurship, and labor market policy reform, with a growing emphasis on green jobs and digital transformation.
