Egypt's Health Ministry confirms no Salmonella outbreak in local markets despite global rise

This statement comes amidst a global increase in Salmonella infection rates. Dr. Abdel Ghaffar, speaking on Al-Hayat TV, highlighted the ministry's proactive approach through a "preventive monitoring and early warning" system to prevent epidemics. He explained that Salmonella primarily affects the gastrointestinal tract, transmitted via contaminated food, water, or poor hygiene.

Symptoms typically include diarrhea, vomiting, and fever, with most cases resolving with home care, though vulnerable groups face higher risks. While Salmonella can be found in poultry and eggs, global outbreaks are linked to specific international supply chains, not local systemic risks. Dr. Abdel Ghaffar emphasized proper food handling and storage, praising the Egyptian Food Safety Authority's inspection campaigns.

Laboratory tests consistently confirm the safety of domestic food supplies. Egyptian hospitals and medical teams are prepared for routine Salmonella cases, and the country has not observed the unusual surge in cases seen internationally.
