Claim that NDC promised to cap Supreme Court justices at 15 found false
A claim made by Awal Mohammed, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s National Communications Team, that the National Democratic Congress NDC promised in its manifesto to limit the number of Supreme Court judges to 15 has been rated as false. Mohammed stated on Joy News’ AM Show on July 12, 2026, that the NDC had failed to uphold this promise, citing that there are currently 19 Supreme Court justices. He made these remarks during a discussion about justice delivery and the appointment of judges by President John Dramani Mahama. GhanaFact reviewed the NDC’s 2024 Manifesto, titled "Resetting Ghana," and found no specific promise to cap the number of Supreme Court justices at 15. The manifesto addressed plans for the judiciary under "CHAPTER 6: RESTORING GOOD GOVERNANCE AND FIGHTING CORRUPTION," with subheadings including Enhancing Justice Delivery, Justice for All, and Judicial Accountability.
