Cairo Airport Terminal 4 projected to cost up to $4.5 billion, increase capacity to 40 million passengers

This expansion is expected to boost the airport's annual passenger capacity to 40 million. The project will be funded by various financial institutions, not through self-financing, and construction is anticipated to take approximately four years. Phased operations for the terminal, incorporating smart travel technologies like e-gates and biometric systems, could commence within two and a half to three years.

Currently, Cairo Airport's three terminals handle about 28 million passengers annually, with traffic projected to reach 31 million by the end of 2026. Egypt's airports collectively have a capacity of 62 million-63 million passengers, and the government aims to gradually increase Cairo Airport's capacity to 68 million-70 million, eventually exceeding 100 million passengers annually. Additionally, the ministry has finished the initial tender stage for managing Hurghada International Airport, with 10 international consortia involved.

The ministry is also exploring offering airports in integrated packages for management, operation, and development to attract international operators and investment in the aviation sector.
