Three injured after gunfire at Mombasa event attended by Governor Abdulswamad Nassir
Three people sustained gunshot wounds at a public event in Mombasa attended by Governor Abdulswamad Nassir. The incident occurred at Bomu Stadium during a "Biashara Mtaani" program forum. Witnesses reported that a group of youths approached the governor, chanting "Wantam," before members of his security detail intervened and shots were fired. The injured individuals, identified as youths, were taken to a nearby health facility, with some later transferred to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital. Mombasa County Police Commander Stella Cherono confirmed investigations are underway, appealing for witnesses to come forward. Human rights activist Francis Auma condemned the shooting, calling for an independent probe by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority IPOA and urging the county government to cover medical expenses for the injured. Police recovered spent cartridges from the scene. Governor Nassir reportedly continued with the event after additional security was deployed.
