Algerian students in Canada face increased minimum financial requirements for study permits
Algerian students planning to study in Canada will now need to budget more as Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada IRCC has increased the minimum funds required for a study permit. This update, effective September 1, 2026, applies to all new student immigration applications. The minimum living expense amount for a single student has risen from $22,895 to $23,448 per year, an increase of $553. This figure does not include tuition fees or travel costs from the student's home country. For families, the required amounts also increase: $29,192 for two people, $35,888 for three, and $43,572 for four. For each additional family member, an extra $6,318 is required. Applications submitted before August 31, 2026, will still be processed under the previous financial requirements. Quebec has its own financial requirements under the Certificat d'acceptation du Québec CAQ. Since January 1, 2026, the financial requirement for a single person in Quebec is $24,617 per year, a significant increase from the previous $15,508. This adjustment aims to align the proof of funds with the actual costs of living, including housing, food, transportation, and health coverage in Quebec.
