German minister's visit to Algeria focuses on Sahel, energy, and economic cooperation

Algeria has become a key natural gas supplier for the European Union since 2022, with German distributor VNG signing agreements with Sonatrach. Further gas supply increases to Germany are expected from January 1, 2027. The partnership is also expanding into green hydrogen, leveraging Algeria's solar potential and proximity to Europe.

Discussions in Algiers earlier this year involved a shift towards clean energy and low-carbon technologies, with a joint commitment made in July to deepen cooperation in energy supply security and sector transformation.
