Cheb Mami cancels Paris concert in tribute to Algerian fire victims
Singer Cheb Mami announced the cancellation of his concert scheduled for September 5 in Paris. He explained that this decision was made out of solidarity with Algerian families affected by recent fires. In a message on his social media, Cheb Mami stated he would not perform due to the atmosphere of mourning impacting several Algerian families, expressing that he feels the pain personally. He mentioned families who lost loved ones in the catastrophe that struck various regions of the country. Cheb Mami apologized to his Parisian audience, clarifying that his decision was a matter of conscience, prioritizing it over artistic or commercial considerations. He extended his condolences to the victims' families, wished a swift recovery to the injured, and offered support to all those affected by the fires, concluding that his heart remains with Algeria. This gesture is part of a broader movement of Arab solidarity with Algeria, with other artists and journalists, including Nesrine Tafesh, Kinda Alloush, Moustafa Agha, Dounia Samir Ghanem, and Asmaa Ibrahim, also sharing messages of support. Tunisian artist Lotfi Bouchnak also expressed readiness to assist those affected by the fires, calling it a "duty and honor" towards his Algerian "brothers" and expressing deep sadness over the images of deceased animals and agricultural damage.
