Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno reveals earning N10 million monthly from akara business before politics

He made this disclosure during the state’s monthly covenant prayer service. Eno explained that he began by selling akara and bread, packaged as "Akara Burger," and later expanded into a coffee shop. He noted that customers, particularly ExxonMobil workers, patronized his business in the mornings.

The governor stated that this experience taught him valuable lessons about entrepreneurship and growing businesses from humble beginnings. His revelation comes months after First Lady Oluremi Tinubu encouraged Nigerians to consider small businesses like akara and kuli-kuli to improve their livelihoods, a suggestion that drew criticism on social media. The First Lady later clarified that her empowerment program extended beyond akara sellers to include various petty traders and announced a N100 million intervention for 2,000 traders in Jigawa State.

President Bola Tinubu also humorously referred to his wife as "Iya Alakara." Governor Eno's personal account has reignited discussions about the potential of small-scale enterprises for sustainable livelihoods.
