
Mauritius reports Rs 649.7 billion in declared investments across 16 sectors, with Rs 138.8 billion already realized
The Economic Development Board EDB has reported Rs 649.7 billion in declared investments across 16 economic sectors. This figure represents cumulative investment commitments from developers who have formally submitted project details to the EDB, rather than projections. As of now, Rs 138.8 billion has been realized, covering expenses for construction, equipment, operations, and employment. This indicates a realization rate of approximately 21% of the total declared investments. The investment portfolio highlights a growing diversity in targeted activities, ranging from commercial and industrial infrastructure to integrated projects, solar farms, and hospital establishments. A significant portion of the remaining pipeline, estimated at Rs 412 billion, involves large-scale, multi-year projects, including integrated developments, Mixed-Use and Smart City projects, and major renewable energy infrastructure. Energy is a key sector, with 44 declared projects representing Rs 23 billion in investments, reflecting Mauritius' structural transformation towards renewable energy and decentralized electricity infrastructure. Health and education are also prominent, with 28 and 21 declared projects respectively, underscoring Mauritius' ambition to strengthen its role as a regional service platform beyond traditional financial services.
