
Daniel Auguste arrested in 157 kg cannabis trafficking investigation between Mauritius and Reunion
Daniel José Auguste, also known as Bobo, a 60-year-old farmer from Tamarind Falls, Vacoas, has been arrested in connection with the alleged trafficking of 157 kilograms of cannabis between Mauritius and Reunion. He is the third suspect apprehended in this case, following Ravindra Kris Chimajee, 38, and Gulshan Govind, 42. Auguste's profile is known to police, and investigators believe his involvement could help the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit ADSU dismantle drug networks operating in the western region along the Mauritius-Reunion axis. A blue Ford Raptor, suspected of being used in the trafficking, was found hidden in the yard of an unoccupied house in Sodnac, Quatre-Bornes. The vehicle has been seized for forensic examination to trace movements and advance the investigation into the 157 kg of cannabis, valued at Rs 234 million. Police are reconstructing Daniel Auguste's itinerary, particularly for July 26 and 27, using Safe City Network camera footage, private surveillance systems, telephone data, and scientific analysis. Daniel Auguste was previously questioned in September 2023 by the Major Crimes Investigation Team MCIT regarding the assassination of Kaya Soopramanien Kistnen. Investigators are also examining his family ties, as he is the brother of Patrick Auguste, an alleged drug trafficker who is suspected to have clandestinely left Mauritian territory.
