New bail attempt for Mamy Ravatomanga in Rs 7.3 billion money laundering case

Hans Aleear, Acting Director of Investigations for the Financial Crimes Commission FCC, testified about Ravatomanga's arrival in Mauritius on October 12, fleeing justice in Madagascar after an international arrest warrant was issued against him. Ravatomanga, who is considered the Ultimate Beneficial Owner of the Sodiat group, is accused by the FCC of State Capture, involving influence peddling, corruption, embezzlement, and money laundering. These alleged offenses relate to transactions such as aircraft sales to Iran, lychee exports from Madagascar to Europe, wheat imports to Madagascar, and highway construction.

Ravatomanga, observing the proceedings from Melrose prison, interrupted by claiming "too many lies," but was cautioned by his lawyer. The FCC detailed the Sodiat group's presence in Mauritius, its interconnected entities, and bank accounts subject to Criminal Attachments Orders. Ravatomanga faces two provisional charges of money laundering and one charge of criminal conspiracy related to influence peddling in Mauritius.
