Ghana Parliament recalled for emergency session at President Mahama's request
Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin announced that the five-day emergency recall of Parliament, from August 24 to August 28, 2026, was initiated by President John Dramani Mahama. The President requested the recall to address three urgent matters: the consideration of the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Amendment Bill, two nominations for Ministers of State, and three nominations for Supreme Court Justices. Speaker Bagbin explained that despite the House having adjourned on July 31, these critical issues necessitated an immediate return to parliamentary duties under Order 584 of the Standing Orders.
